Edward Steichen (1879-1973) was perhaps the first person to recognize the artistic potential in the new medium of photography. His images are as varied as they are wondrous: ranging from fashion photography to portraits that often capture the character and soul of his subjects as well as their faces. His work is widely exhibited and hangs in many prestigious museums including The Museum of Modern Art.
